Our School Science Vision
As children develop a curiosity in learning about the world around them, at Coningsby St. Michael’s we aim to nurture this through the teaching of science with a focus on scientific knowledge and enquiry skills. We aim to progress these two aspects of the subject through a hands-on, inquiry-based practical curriculum that aims to satisfy our children’s inquisitiveness.
Science is all around us so we use the school’s outdoor learning areas and Mystical Garden to support the teaching of this subject.
The aims of our science teaching are to enable children:
To generate curiosity and make sense of the world around them, to ask and answer questions about how the different areas of science affects their daily lives, providing the backbone of other knowledge.
To provide opportunities to develop an inquisitive mind through asking questions in science that they can relate to real life.
To understand the world around them and the impact they can have on it, they are at the beginning of their journeys into scientific careers.
To empower the next generation of inquisitive minds who are looking to answer questions and solve world problems.
To investigate and explore using practical equipment, the outdoor spaces and the Mystical Garden.
To engage with the wider community and our RAF neighbours with STEM enrichment activities to broaden their horizons.
To lead enquiries and understand the relevance of science through opportunities within the wider community and the outdoors, where children can show enthusiasm towards a science profession engaging confidently in their chosen subject.
As teachers, we want to be confident in teaching al aspects of science, gaining effective subject knowledge and linking science in cross-curricular ways.
