Spring 1 Week 3

Literacy

This week in literacy we have been reading the lovely story Lost and Found.  The children have been describing the characters in the story and have been showing how they are using their phonics in their writing.

The children have been acting out the story and using the boat to sail to different places in their play.  The boat has been to a treasure island, Africa, Lincoln and to the beach as well as the South Pole! The children have been taking turns to go in the boat and using a timer to make sure everyone got to have a turn.

Maths

In maths this week we have been looking at weight and capacity. On Monday we used the balancing scales to weigh different objects and then we used mathematical language to describe what we saw.

We used bottles with water in and described how full the bottle was using language full, empty, nearly empty and nearly full.  The children enjoyed using different sized scoops and cups to find out how many scoops of sand it took to fill a cup.

Music

In music the children have been listening to an African lullaby and talking about the song. The children talked about how the song made them feel.  We then explored the sounds we could make on xylophones and started to learn how to play the tune Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.
