Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Coningsby

At Coningsby St Michael’s, equality, diversity and inclusion are woven through every aspect of our curriculum and wider enrichment offer. Rooted in our Christian vision — “As Jesus welcomes and values children, we welcome and value all members of our community so that all may succeed” — and aligned with LAAT’s commitment to Excellence, Equality and Equity, our provision ensures that every child is seen, heard, and supported to flourish.

Across all subjects, pupils engage with a rich curriculum that develops respect, celebrates difference, and prepares them for life in modern Britain. Enrichment experiences such as Forest SchoolSTEM learningLyfta sessionsDiversity Days, community events and whole‑school celebrations (e.g., Diwali, Black History Month, World Book Day) intentionally promote understanding of global cultures, protected characteristics, and fundamental British values such as democracy, mutual respect, and individual liberty.

Our curriculum design ensures that learning is inclusive and accessible, enabling all pupils to develop knowledge, skills and personal attributes that reflect fairness, compassion and dignity. Subject‑specific opportunities such as RE explorations of world faiths, geography fieldwork, science investigations into the natural world, creative arts celebrating cultural expression, and PSHE sessions supporting relationships, health and citizenship provide meaningful contexts for developing social, moral, spiritual and cultural understanding.

Through leadership roles (School Council, House Captains, Collective Worship Council, Prefects), children experience democracy, teamwork and responsibility first‑hand, learning how their voice contributes to positive change. Our whole‑school experiences, live theatre, author visits, charity work, community singing and wider cultural events ensure pupils encounter diverse stories, perspectives and people, building empathy and a sense of belonging.

In all areas, our DEI offer reflects our aspiration for every child to Believe, Aspire, and Succeed, becoming confident, respectful and kind individuals who understand the value of every person. It ensures that inclusion is not an add‑on but a lived reality across our curriculum, culture and community.
